ATHLETICS AT SBMS

Fall Sports

Winter sports

Spring sports

At Selma Burke Middle School we embrace ensuring our students are safe, happy, and healthy, and we believe that athletics help us meet that goal by developing a well-rounded child. We offer several different athletic opportunities to ensure every student who is interested can find one that they enjoy.  At SBMS we offer football, cross country, tennis, softball, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, soccer, track, and cheer.

FALL 2026 SPORTS TRYOUTS

In order for a Selma Burke Middle School student to try out for a sport, ALL Final Forms requirements must be met.  This means an up-to-date physical must be in Final Forms AND both the parent and student signatures must be signed.  This has to be done each school year.   While the physical eligibility (good for 13 months) may cross over into the next school year, the Final Forms signatures DO NOT and must be signed each year.  Physicals must be on the NCHSAA required form.  Can be found on Selma Burke MS webpage.

We will be monitoring weather in the hours leading up to tryouts and will post updates on Parent Square.  Other than storms rolling through, we check the WBGT for relative humidity while also considering the temperature.  Because it is so hot right now, please make sure to check PS for updates.

All students need to dress appropriately for the sport being played and bring a water bottle each day.  If rain is in the forecast, football and softball players need to also bring sneakers with them.
